About Buckley

Buckley started in 1882 as Perkins Prairie, took the Northern Pacific's rails in 1884, and was renamed in 1887 for a railroad division superintendent before incorporating in 1890. Shingle mills and logging camps built the town — the White River Shingle Mill fired up in 1886 — and Buckley still celebrates that era every summer at the Log Show grounds. The state's Rainier School arrived in 1939 and anchored the south end for decades. Today the Foothills Trail runs right through town — a 2024 bridge now carries it across the White River to Enumclaw — and SR 410 makes Buckley the gateway to Crystal Mountain and Rainier's north side. For buyers, it splits neatly in two: century-old millworker cottages gridded around the brick Main Street blocks, and newer large-lot subdivisions along the plateau edges that pull the median above much of Pierce County while keeping an unmistakably small-town center.
