About Des Moines

Named for Des Moines, Iowa (an early settler's hometown), Des Moines, Washington was platted in 1872 around the Sound waterfront and grew into one of the only Puget Sound cities where the marina is still the central civic landmark. Highline College anchors the south end. The Sound-front blocks command premium prices; up the hill is more attainable.
