Founded in 1888 by Thomas Van Eaton on the Mashel River, Eatonville grew as a logging and mill town at the foot of the Cascades. Northwest Trek Wildlife Park — 722 acres of native Pacific Northwest habitat operated by Metro Parks Tacoma — is the city's signature attraction, where bison, caribou, and moose roam free-range while visitors tour by tram. Mt. Rainier looms at the end of every east-facing street; the Nisqually entrance to the National Park is 40 minutes away.
