About Seattle
Settled in 1851 by the Denny Party at Alki Point and named for Chief Si'ahl of the Duwamish and Suquamish peoples, Seattle burned to the ground in 1889 and rebuilt — in brick this time. The Klondike Gold Rush made it the gateway to Alaska; Boeing made it an aerospace capital; the 1962 World's Fair gave it the Space Needle and a forward-looking identity it never lost. Amazon and Microsoft finished the job. The median home crossed
M in Seattle proper in 2021, pulling every surrounding market upward with it.
